Smiles for miles as students collect GCSE results

Students across Redhill Academy Trust have completed Year 11 by collecting their GCSE results.

Their hard work, determination and achievements were celebrated alongside staff and parents in schools across our region.

This cohort has achieved excellent grades despite a disrupted start to their secondary school career. They had only completed one full term of secondary school when the Covid lockdown was announced in England.

This year, while the national average for GCSE and Level 2 qualifications has dropped to pre-COVID (2019) levels, several Redhill Trust schools have bucked the trend and achieved outstanding results.

A snapshot of the celebrations could be seen at Park Vale Academy in Nottingham.

Park Vale students have secured the best GCSE results in the school's history! The school's headline results improved once again with 57.1% of students meeting the benchmark of grades 9 – 4 in both English and Maths, an increase of 6.1% on last year! An impressive 35% secured grades 9 – 5 in both subjects, an increase of 5.4% on last year.

Headteacher Steve Bowhay said: “Congratulations to all of our Year 11 students for an amazing set of exam results this year. They bear testament to the hard work of our students, but also that of our staff. The academy's teaching team deliver fabulous lessons day in day out to support all our students to achieve their very best. We all wish the class of 2024 every success in their next stage in life.”

Another Redhill Trust school where results have risen sharply is Colonel Frank Seely Academy. The school said its students had 'excelled beyond expectations' with a significant increase in the number of top grades - especially grade 9s!

Headteacher Jon Gale said: "We couldn't be prouder of each and every one of our students and the hard work they've put in. It was truly a special moment to spend this morning celebrating their achievements together. Whether they've achieved their dream grades or overcome challenges, every student has something to be proud of today. We can't wait to see many of them return to our Sixth Form in September. Here's to continued success and new adventures ahead in whatever they choose to do!"

Over at The Redhill Academy, special recognition was given to the following students who achieved an impressive number of top grades:

  • Shane Zhao, who achieved 11 Grade 9s
  • Summer Yates, who achieved 8 Grade 9s
  • Diego Pérez Martinez, who achieved 8 Grade 9s

Headteacher Mike Hardy said: "While we are proud of all our students and their achievements, these students deserve a special mention. The cohort as a whole have demonstrated hard work, resilience and talent. They have exceeded all expectations and should be incredibly proud of their achievements. Alongside their exam success, our students have given so much in other areas of academic life, including engaging in competitive sport, Performing Arts, Duke of Edinburgh, mentoring and volunteering. I want to thank our staff and parents for the hard work, dedication and support they continue to provide; because of you, our students have been able to achieve wonderful academic outcomes, embrace opportunities and create lasting friendships and memories whilst here at Redhill."

The cohort as a whole have demonstrated hard work, resilience and talent. They have exceeded all expectations and should be incredibly proud of their achievements.

Many students will now continue their studies at one of the Trust's seven sixth form centres.

At Tupton Hall School in Chesterfield students were eagerly planning their next steps, with a large percentage continuing on at Tupton Hall Sixth Form.

Max Taylor, the only Year 11 student to delve into Further Maths this year, has his sights on being a thermodynamics engineer. With an incredible 7 grade 9s, 2 grade 8s, 1 grade 7 and 1 grade 6, he is a step closer to that dream. In the meantime, he will study chemistry, physics, maths and further maths at Tupton Hall Sixth Form.

Another Tupton Hall student with big ambitions is Kayleigh Maggs whose 1 grade 9, 1 grade 8, 3 grade 7s, 3 grade 6s and 2 grade 5s will lead her into A Levels in art, physics, core maths and product design. Her goal is a career as an architect. Kayleigh said the school's varied curriculum, supportive community and staff guidance were key to her success.
